learned today jesse jackson, jr. is being charged with conspiring to spend campaign funds on personal expenses. jackson allegedly conspired to spend $750,000 in campaign funds. sources tell politico those expenses are said to include a $43,000 rolex, home renovations and fur coats among other things. jackson issued a statement this afternoon saying he fully accepts responsibility for his mistakes. politico says prosecutors will recommend a prison sentence of between 46 and 57 months and he had a career ready to go. jackson's wife also pled guilty to one count of tax fraud. i guess this is all a plea bargain. we'll be right back. someone like andrew jackson or harry truman campaigning against congress well and good. but it's only in recent years that you've had this almost nuclear game of chicken that we're seeing now and we also saw in 1995 with bill clinton and newt gingrich. and i think one dangerous thing about right now is that on both sides, people tend to be a little bit sanguine in remembering 1995. through a political lens, there may even be some democrats who say it turned out to be good for the democrats because clinton was able to position himself as a moderate, keeping the barbarians from the gate. and on the republican side they can say yes, we took some heat for being confrontational, but didn't we win both houses of congress in 1996? so i think that memory is a very dangerous thing. and it certainly isn't a break on this rush to the edge of destruction that we're seeing right now. >> because the fights are over fiscal issues and economic issues broadly speaking, i have to ask about how much of a threat to the country we are seeing and how much actual damage we are seeing inflicted. i mean repub

there. jesse jackson jr. quit his seat there, holding a special election to replace him. the primary happens a week from tuesday. this is a heavily, heavily, heavily democratic district. so it is pretty well accepted that whoever wins the democratic party is going to win this seat in congress. that's why we had 17 democrats announce that they were going to run for this seat when it first became open. in a field that crowded and in a race that is this short, name recognition and perceived status is everything. right? whoever seems like the obvious choice, whoever seems like the obvious choice, whoever is running in that primary, who themselves is a former member of congress and left congress in good standing with all the name recognition and the status that brings with it, that person is not necessarily a shoo-in, but that person who left in good standing, that person is probably the front-runner. but in this case, in this election, there is a problem with that would-be front-runner there is a problem with her record. there is a problem with this tape still being accessible on youtube

about that race. it's for congressman jesse jackson jr.'s old seat in illinois, which he resigned. it's a heavily democratic district. whoever wins the democratic primary a week from tonight is widely expected to win the seat. that's why at the outset, 17 different democrats said they would like a chance at this one. 17. however, over the weekend that primary field got less crowded in a significant way when illinois state senator toi hutchinson, one of the front-runners, dropped out of the race. the important context here is this. new york city mayor mike bloomberg's superpac has spent $2 million and counting on pro-gun reform ads in this district. on friday, the pac launched this ad, calling out toi hutchinson by name for having an "a" rating with the nra. the other under pressure for the same reasons is debbie halvor son, who also got an "a" rating from the nra. debbie halvorson responded by including gun safety as an issue for her campaign. there it, the second thing on her issues page, gun control and gun safety. debbie halverson also posted this open letter about her position
